Game guide

1 Introduction
Maxithlon is the first and only online game in which you lead an athletic club to glory trying to reach the highest club and individual results with your athletes. You have to manage the finances of your club and to improve your athletes and to allow them to reach the highest regional, national or international goals. But to do this, you also have to take into account the technical limits of the athletes and to plan the season so that your athletes can fully achieve their potential.
2 Your club
To control all aspects of your Club you can use the links on the left menu and the icons at the bottom-left of the page (home, arena, leagues etc). These links will allow you to access the different sections to manage the various aspects of your Club.
2.1 Athletes
Characteristics
In the page "Athletes" you'll find a summary of the characteristics (skills) of your athletes: the skills are values between 0 and 20. The performance of an athlete in a specific field will be different from one speciality to another, according to the skills' value.
The main characteristics of each athlete are: Strength, Stamina, Speed, Agility, Jump and Throw. In addition each athlete possesses 2 extra skills that are determined according to the speciality he'll be assigned to (specialization). Each athlete will have the possibility of specializing in one of the following categories: Sprinter, Middle Distance Runner, Long Distance Runner, Race Walker, Jumper, Thrower.
After choosing the speciality for an athlete he will receive these 2 additional skills with a random value that will be slightly influenced by his current Mood. The athlete's speciality can be chosen or modified only once every 10 weeks. Moreover, it won't be possible to change the speciality of athletes older than 25 years.
The indicator that rates the global value of the athlete's skills is the MAXID, which is also influenced by Care and Form. The Care value (it ranges between 5 and 20) suggests how easily an athlete will receive benefits from training. The Form value is a fundamental skill for the athlete's performances, and it ranges between 1 and 20, but after the training the minimum value for it will be 11.
Factors other than skills and Form that can determine the athlete's performances are experience, weight and height.

In order to observe the improvements of every athlete, together with the race results (Performances), you can check the weekly tests that are made in every race of his speciality (for the tests' days, see Appendix 1).

Your Club will only be able to have 60 elite athletes, if you pass this limit when Maxithlon checks it (depending on the events' calendar of every nation) the athletes with the lowest Mood levels will leave the Club until you get down to 60 again.

Categories
The athletes are divided into Juniors (14-17), Seniors (18-34) and Masters (over 35) according to their age. You'll have to pay a weekly wage to the Seniors and Masters athletes, but they can also receive individual sponsorship offers (contracts) depending on the number of fans for each athlete. The number of fans that follow an athlete will increase according to results achieved by the athlete in the various competitions; the higher prestige the event has the better it will affect the athlete's popularity, corresponding to a higher number of fans that will support him. The Junior athletes are also able to increase their fans but they are not able to receive sponsorship offers. At every season change all the athletes, excluding juniors, will lose 20% of their fans.
2.2 Youth squad
The youth are the future of each Club. Every week it is possible to invest from 1.000 up to 20.000 to spot and to "hire" from 1 to 4 athletes whose characteristics will be randomly chosen and whose age will be between 14 and 17 years ("Look for young athletes"). The members of the youth squad won't be able to compete in any events and they can't be sold. The benefit from staying on the youth squad is a 50% faster training rate compared to athletes on the elite team and the Form of athletes on the youth squad does not change. The youth squad's athletes can be taken into the first squad by "promoting" them. Promotion is automatic at the end of the year the athlete turns 18.

The youth squad has 5 available positions. If you pass this limit when Maxithlon checks it (depending on the events' calendar of every nation) you will lose the athletes of the youth squad with the lowest Mood level until you get back down to 5.
2.3 Coaches and training
The Coaches are fundamental for the training and therefore for the improvement of your Club's athletes. Every Coach will have a speciality (Sprinter, Middle Distance Runner, ... ) and his own skills (strenght, stamina, ... ): the higher the value of one of his skills, the better he will train that characteristic. Every Coach can have a different training program dedicating a training percentage to the various skills. The higher this percentage will be, the better the training efficiency will be. The sum of all the percentages can't go over 100. In order to make an athlete follow a specific traning program, he'll need to be associated to a Coach. The Coaches of a speciality will only be able to follow and train the athletes of that speciality.
By clicking "Buy a Coach" on the Coaches page, you can hire a Coach (no more than one per week). During the hiring process you'll need to chose a speciality, the primary skill for the Coach and the level of the Coach himself (to know the Coaches' costs, see Appendix 2). The higher the cost of the Coach, the greater will be the possibility to get a Coach with good training capacities; but remember that the wage you'll need to give him it will be proportional to his skills.
The skills of each Coach will decrease with time.

The maximum number of Coaches you can have in your Club is 13.

Training
You'll be able to see the training results each Thursday. In order to recieve any training effects, during the week from one Thursday to the next Thursday an athlete will need to:
- complete at least 1 race in one of his specialities;
- not be injured;
- be assigned to a Coach of his speciality.
2.4 Staff
Your team will be able to hire support staff that can help to improve your team's reputation. Hiring or firing a staff member will cost you 1.000, and their weekly salary will be 500.
Groundskeepers are in charge of the arena's upkeep which slows the decline in its' efficiency (and the repairs you will have to make).
Public Relations personnel have the ability to affect the relations with your sponsors and will therefore cause a gradual increase of the Club's and individual's sponsors, up to 10%.
Doctors are necessary in case you have injured athletes, and will permit those athletes to have a faster recover from the injury.
The Dietician will allow you to place up to 5 athletes on a customized diet in order to help them increase or decrease their weight. The effect of the diet will be visible each Thursday. To see the costs of the Dietician, see Appendix 2.
2.5 Arena
Every club will need to manage its arena, which consists of running lanes, a press room, a dressing room, seating and a gym.
An arena can have from 2 up to 8 lanes. The greater the number of lanes, the higher will be the number of athletes that may race in each heat. Due to the higher competition between the athletes, the final results may therefore be better.
Depending on its size the press room allows the club to organize different levels of events. The greater the size of the press room, the greater the prestige of events that can be organized (you will find the link between the press room size and the type of meeting you can organize in the Events section).
The dressing room determines the number of races you can hold for each event you organize. You can organize one event for every 3 square metres of dressing room.
The seating capacity determines the maximum number of spectators that can attend an event.
The arena's gym influences the training efficiency that your athletes will get weekly. There is a limit of 100 square metres: you will have no more benefits once you exceed this limit.
For the improvement costs for each part of the arena, see Appendix 2.

Efficiency
The Arena has to be kept in good repair. Its efficiency tends to decrease over time and every time you host an event. In order to avoid the loss of some parts of the arena, the efficiency should never get lower than 80-85%. To recover the arena's efficiency use the appropriate function (Condition recovery), the cost of which depends on the size of the different parts of the arena.

Ranking
There exists a ranking of all of the arenas that calculates which is the best one. This ranking takes into consideration all the arena's parts.
2.6 Economy
The Club's economy is fundamental for its success. In the Finances area you'll be able to keep track of your weekly income and expenditures: from the sponsorships to the wages paid out, from the prizes won to the costs for the organizing an event. You can also take a look at the latest transactions made in order to keep better control over your bank balance.
The initial balance of a Club when created is 100.000 (plus some bonuses to a maximum 50.000 that can be reached through the link "Your first steps ..." for the new users). If you let your balance become negative, you'll find yourself having to pay 5% interest on the negative part. Other disadvantages resulting from being in a negative economic situation are that you'll not be able to participate in economic activities (i.e. buying athletes) that would take the balance to a amount less than -150.000.
The maximum debt permitted is -300.000 after which the Club will automatically go into bankruptcy and you'll be removed from the game.

Sponsorship and Fidelity Factor
The club's sponsorships are determined by the level of the NL your Club's playing in, by the final position reached in the weekly NL race, by the total number of your club's Fans and by the Fidelity Factor.
The Fidelity Factor links the club's sponsorships to the number of transfers made by the Club. Each transfer makes the Fidelity Factor decrease by a variable amount, while every week this parameter will naturally increase incrementally.
Notice that when you buy athletes of the same nationality of your club, this transfer will cause a lower decrease in the Fidelity Factor, while if the athlete bought is the same nationality of your club's one and is younger than 21, the decrease will be 50% lower than trading older athletes. When athletes younger than 21 are sold, that have your club as origin and that have never been traded, the Fidelity Factor decrease will be half as much as otherwise.
3 Trade market
Sales
It is possible to put an athlete in the trade market directly from his/her page and deciding what will be the starting price of the auction. The athlete will be on the market for three days and during this time the other clubs can make bids. Entering an athlete on the market will cost you some money determined by the starting price of the auction: this cost will be charged even if the athlete remains unsold.
The income from the sale will be determined by how long the athlete has remained in your club. The percentage of income is 50% of the final price for athletes just acquired and increases 0.5% for each day spent on your team before being put on the market, up to 90%. For each sale a rate of 5% will be given to the club that promoted the athlete from his hatchery.

Market research and athlete purchase
On the Market page you can set the options to do a market research. From the results of the search you can bid for athletes you are interested in: remember that the minimum bid is 5% more of the current offer with a minimum of 1.000. If a bid is exceeded in the last three minutes of the auction, then bidding will be extended for a further three minutes.

Every trade has a negative effect on the Fidelity Factor of the club.

Dismissal
It is possible to fire an athlete at any time, directly from the page of the athlete.
4 Disciplines
Each specialty (Sprint, Middle distance, Long distance, ...) is divided into a number of disciplines, in each of which the skills of your athlete will have different weights in determining performance. In the Skills and specialties section you can see what skills are most important to place an athlete in each discipline. The disciplines are:
• Sprint: 100 Meters, 200 Meters, 400 Meters, 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles;
• Middle distance: 800 Meters, 1500 Meters, 3000 staples;
• Long distance: 5000 Meters, 10000 Meters, Marathon;
• Race walk: 10Km, 20Km, 50Km;
• Jump: High jump, Pole vault, Long jump, Triple jump;
• Throw: Shot put, Discus, Hammer, Javelin.

Skills and specialties
The values of the various skills affect the performance of the athletes in each discipline in different ways.
The skill Speed is essential in running races. It is needed most by Sprinters but is also important to Middle and Long distance runners. This skill is also useful for athletes competing in the Long jump.
Strength is the skill that is most important to throwers, but sprinters also need this valuable skill.
Stamina is the most important skill for long races, and therefore its influence increases with the distance of the race. Stamina is important for Middle distance runners, but is crucial for Long distance runners and Race walkers.
Agility is an important skill in most Sprint and Throw specialties, but is especially vital in the pole vault and triple jump.
Jump is the main skill for Jumpers, and also helps hurdlers.
The throw skill only helps throwers.
For details on the amount of influence the different skills have in each discipline see the Events section or read the Guide and Wiki help.
4.1 Relays
You can create 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that can compete in team events (Meeting, National League and Club Championships). Each relay can consist of 4 athletes and a spare. An athlete may be part of only one relay. The performance of the relay only depends on the athletes' primary skills, as indicated in Events section, on harmony and on condition. Harmony is an attribute of each relay team and has a value on a scale of 10 between E and A++: this attribute will increase during the weekly training provided the relay competed in at least one event during the week obtaining a result or being disqualified by the judges, otherwise harmony will drop. The lower the harmony is, the higher the chance to receive a disqualification during the race. You can replace a member of the relay every 30 days, the cost of this operation will be the reduction of the harmony by 25%. On the other hand it's possible to change the order of relay runners without any limitation and without penalties in harmony.
Condition is a relay skill that could be considered as form for the athletes. Condition, as form for athletes, will drop after a race according to attitude used, and will raise during weekly training at same conditions of harmony raises and losses.
Taking part in a relay race doesn't affect the athletes, neither decreasing the form nor increasing the experience and fans. Moreover, it will not be considered as a race valid for the weekly training.
5 Competitions in which to participate
Athletes of a club may be enrolled in all meets scheduled (you can check the list using the filters on the Events page) that are eligible by your club (the fastest way is to check the option "Automatically exclude all events in which your team can not take part"). The meets are divided by level and by category: juniors, seniors and masters.

National League
The National League is a sort of championship between clubs of similar level. You can take part in the 8-event National League of your group and try to be promoted to higher groups. In the National League events you can enroll only one athlete per discipline and the ranking of the event is calculated by adding the points for the position of all the athletes of a club.

Regional club championships
You can enroll your team to the Regional club championship of your region (1 athlete per discipline). The first N clubs of this competition will be invited to the National club championship.
N is the number of seats that are available to qualify, this number differs from region to region depending on the number of clubs registered in the region.
Also the 20 clubs with the best scoring in Regional phase will be invited to National club championship

Regional individual championships
You can enroll your athletes (born in your own nation) to the Regional individual championships of your region (with a limit of two athletes per discipline). The first N athletes will be invited to the National individual championships.

National club championships
The clubs qualified through the Regional club championships will be entitled to enroll their athletes in the National club championships. The ranking of the championship will be based on the amount of points earned by each athlete's performance. Each club will be able to enroll just one athlete per discipline. The winner of the event will bear the title of National club champion.

National individual championships
The championships are open to the athletes who have qualified through the Regional individual championships (as explained above). In addition to these athletes, the best 3 athletes of the seasonal national ranking will be invited to this event. Qualifying through the ranking is also the only way to qualify a foreign athlete to the Championship of his/her nation. The athlete winning each discipline will be the national champion of that discipline.

World Championship
The World Championship are held every 4 seasons and are open to the athletes of all the nations of Maxithlon. In this event the first 50 athletes in the seasonal world ranking for each discipline (without considering any age limit) will be invited. Invitations to the event will be sent to qualified athletes on the Friday before the event. An athlete, even if they qualify in several disciplines, will be able to participate in a maximum of two races. The winner of each discipline will be the world champion of the discipline.

Olympic Games
The Olympic Games are held every 4 seasons and are open to the athletes of all the nations of Maxithlon. In this event the first 20 athletes in the seasonal world ranking and the first athlete of the national ranking for each discipline (without considering any age limit) will be invited. Invitations to the event will be sent to qualified athletes on the Friday before the event. An athlete, even if they qualify in several disciplines, will be able to participate in a maximum of two races. The winner of each discipline will be the Olympic champion of that discipline.

Junior World Championship
The Junior World Championships are held every 2 seasons and are open to athletes of all the nations of Maxithlon. In this event the first 30 athletes in the seasonal world ranking of juniors (14-17 years old) for each discipline will be invited. Invitations to the event will be sent to qualified athletes on the Friday before the race. An athlete, even if they qualify in several disciplines, will be able to participate in a maximum of two races. The winner of each discipline will be the junior world champion of that discipline.

Masters World Championship
The Masters World Championships are held every 2 seasons and are open to athletes of all the nations of Maxithlon. In this event the first 30 athletes in the seasonal world ranking of masters (over 35 years old) for each discipline will be invited. Invitations to the event will be sent to qualified athletes on the Friday before the race. An athlete, even if they qualify in several disciplines, will be able to participate in a maximum of two races. The winner of each discipline will be the masters world champion of that discipline.

Refer to Appendix 1 to see the prizes you will win in official events.
5.1 How to organize a competition
Meetings
Each club has the ability to organize 4 meetings per season (1 masters, 1 juniors and 2 seniors through the menu Events -> Create an event). The number of events that can be run in a meeting depends on the size of the dressing rooms of your arena, while the level of meet depends on the size of the press room. The levels of the meets are:
Regional Meeting (press unnecessary),
National Meeting (press room at least 15m2)
Continental Meeting (press room at least 25m2)
International Meetings (press room at least 50m2).
The higher the level of the meeting, the greater will be the costs to organize it but also the clubs that may be interested in it, the price of the tickets sold (see Appendix 2) and the number of fans interested in attending.
The organizer of the meet may offer to rank the events based on the placements of the athletes or according to their performances; the club who scores the most points in the meet will win a monetary prize, if provided by the organizer.
Among the various options for creating the meet there is also the price of entering that other clubs will have to pay to enroll their athletes in events.

Official competitions and applications
In addition to meets, a club can apply to host official events through the "application" tool. You can find it in the page Applications (Arena icon in the upper left menu -> Applications).
The rules say that there is a cost for the application (see Appendix 2) and the arena must be compatible with the level of competition requested (to organize a national competition you will need to have a large enough press room).
If a club wishes to organize an official competition, it will have to wait several seasons before to being able to reapply for an event at that level (levels: regional, national, continental, world): it will have to wait 4 seasons in the case of the regional event, 6 seasons for a national, 8 seasons for a continental and 10 seasons for a world championship.
The choice of the arena will be based on the ranking of the arena and on the "organizability", which is a evaluation of how acceptable the arena is for the organization of the competition. This number will grow in time and will drop after the organization of an official competition in relation to its importance.
5.2 How to take part in a race
The easiest way to enroll an athlete in a race is on the Events page. In this page you can view all events in which the athletes of your club can take part by checking the checkbox "Automatically exclude all events in which your club may not take part". Choose the event you are interested in and click on it to enter that event's page. This page displays the disciplines available in the event. Clicking on the name of a particular discipline will show which athletes of your club that can take part in that event (the gray background shows the athletes who specialized in that discipline). Next you can select the athletes that will compete in that discipline and enroll them. Be careful: once enrolled, you can not change the enrollment of an athlete.

Competitors' attitude
The athletes can compete with different levels of attitude: normal, low and high. The normal attitude allows the athlete to have good performances keeping his/her form nearly stable, low attitude allows the athlete to increase his form over time but does not provide optimal performances. Finally, high attitude allows the athlete to achieve his best performance but causes a sharp drop in form. An athlete with low form can easily get injured.

Event results
An athlete may not finish an event because of various factors.
At lower levels of form or morale, the athlete may not be present (absent), or may not start (in the races) or may be not classified (in jump and throw events). At slightly higher levels of form or morale the athlete could retire or be disqualified.
Setting a low attitude for the athlete will make it more likely for him to finish the event than an athlete with high attitude.
Whatever the result, except for disqualification, the athlete could get injured. The chance of getting injured is increased by having taken part in too many races during the week.
6 Rankings and records
One of the most interesting aspect of Track and Field are the performances of athletes that achieve seasonal and all-time rankings of their performances.
In the Ranking section you can set the options to see the various rankings from seasonal to all time, from absolute to those by category, from regional to international. These rankings are very important because in some cases they form the criteria for your athletes to be invited in the most prestigious events.

Of particular interest in this area are the world records. If a world record of a category is beaten, the club of the athlete receives a prize (5.000) and if that record is an absolute world record (and it's still the world record at the time of the ranking's upgrade), there will be an additional award given based on how many days the previous record has held (500 for every day).
7 The community
Federations
The Federations are the meeting points for all the Maxithlon users where they can discuss the game itself, obtain answers to Maxithlon-related questions, and also talk about everything else. To enter these pages you need to click on "Federations" on the left menu, choose one Federation from the list you see and click on "Subscribe". Now you're free to read and open new topics through the appropriate button. As in all other Communities where a polite relationship between the community members is required, it is necessary to abide by our federation rules in order to avoid the consequences.

Announces
You can use the "Announcements" section to advertise the sale of your athletes or the creation of your meetings. The Announcements feature allows you to run an advertising message every 3 days. The official language of this section is English in order to allow to all our users the ability to read the advertising messages.
8 The game staff
The Staff is composed of members who volunteer their time in order to permit the regular development and progress of the game.

Administrator
The Administrator is the one that takes care of the software and of the programming part of Maxithlon.

MaxiOperator and Operator
The Operators are those users that ensure the regular carrying out of the game. These users have the task to prevent and solve instances of cheating in the game. They also have the ability to manage the users' reports.

MaxiModerator and Moderator
The Moderators are the users that moderate the various national and international boards of the Federations. They have the job of observing the users' behavior in the Federations ensuring that all behavior follows the game guidelines and rules.

MaxiTranslator and Translator
The Translators are users that deal with the translation of various parts of the game into the language of their competence.

MaxiTutor
The MaxiTutors are not officially part of the game Staff, but they are users that give their experience and their time to new users in their first few weeks of the game.
9 Bug reporting
If you notice any bug in the game or see some errors, please report it to the Maxithlon Staff (mail world@maxithlon.com) with a detailed description of the problem. We will analyze and solve the problem as soon as possible.
It's absolutely prohibited to take advantage of a bug; if this happens, you will be punished with the immediate closing of your Club. You need to report the bug to the Operators, as said before: writing a detailed mail.
